Girona Star Explains Messi Tribute During Four-Goal Performance vs. Real Madrid

Girona forward Taty Castellanos decided to pay tribute to Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi after scoring four goals against Real Madrid on Tuesday. 

Messi has scored plenty of goals against Los Blancos, so it was no surprise that after his impressive feat in the Girona-Real Madrid contest, Castellanos opted to celebrate his countryman. 

“I have always liked Barca more than Madrid because of Leo [Messi],” Castellanos told JijantesFC on Wednesday. 

“He is an idol for me. I’ve always really enjoyed his matches I don’t know if Leo saw yesterday’s game. We’re talking about the best player in the world. He’s God for us Argentines. He made me cry at the World Cup.”

The 24-year-old isn’t wrong that after seeing Messi lift the 2022 FIFA World Cup last December, many Argentines see the 35-year-old on a God-like level alongside former player Diego Armando Maradona.

As a result, don’t expect Castellanos to be the last player that decides to pay tribute to Messi. It will be interesting to see, though, if the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner returns to scoring in La Liga. 

Messi’s contract with PSG expires in June and FC Barcelona is keen on a reunion with the veteran goal scorer. So if the capital club chooses to move on from Messi, playing in Spain is an option if the Catalan side can make the finances work.
