Johnny Lujack, Heisman Trophy winner and Bears QB, dies at 98
Notre Dame and Chicago Bears quarterback Johnny Lujack died Tuesday, the school announced. He was 98 years old. Lujack was born in Connellsville, Pa., on Jan. 4, 1925. He led the Fighting Irish to three national championships and won the Heisman Trophy during the 1947 season. During the final two years of his college career, Lujack earned unanimous All-American honors. The Fighting Irish didn’t lose a game during the 1946 and 1947 seasons. Lujack went 61-of-109 during the 1947 season, recording 777 passing yards and nine touchdowns. On the ground, Lujack ran for 139 yards on 12 carries.
