New Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca: “The goal is to create something important”

New Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca has revealed that his focus at the Foxes is to create a project over a longer period of time.

The Foxes were without a manager since their relegation to the Championship from the Premier League but after Manchester City’s Champions League win, Maresca left the Citizens and joined Leicester on a deal that will run out in the summer of 2026.

Pep Guardiola’s former assistant Maresca was also linked with a move to Celtic not long ago and as a player, he plied his trade with Juventus, Fiorentina, Sevilla and West Bromwich Albion.

The 43-year-old, who is in the long line of Guardiola students to become managers after the likes of Mikel Arteta, Vincent Kompany and Erik ten Hag, spoke to TuttoJuve about the move to the Foxes.

He said: “Leicester is a club with very solid foundations, the goal is to create something important over time.”

The former Juve player spoke about the Bianconeri’s current situation and he expressed regret, saying: “I can only say that I’m sorry, I wish the club every kind of good. Problems are known only to those who live and work there within the club.”

There have been rumours linking Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa with moves away from Juve and Maresca said: “They are two top players, for me they can play anywhere.”

Maresca steps into a big job at the King Power, as he goes up against the expectations of taking them back in the Premier League – a feat that another Guardiola student in Kompany already achieved with Burnley.
