Here’s what you need to know: Teams can have rookies — any player who has never signed a contract with an NFL club in a prior league year — report up to seven days prior to the club’s earliest mandatory reporting date for veterans. Some teams will have rookies report as soon as July 18. First-year players — any who signed a contract with any NFL club in a prior league year, but do not have a pension-credited season — could also be designated to report that day as well.
