Luis Enrique Addresses Kylian Mbappé Absence Ahead of New Ligue 1 Season

The Kylian Mbappé transfer saga has spilled over into the 2023-24 season. Paris Saint-Germain kicks off the new Ligue 1 campaign against FC Lorient on Saturday at the Parc des Princes, with the situation still lingering. 

As a result, the 24-year-old will remain a shadow over this contest as PSG attempts to sort out this issue. Manager Luis Enrique addressed the matter with the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner ahead of a new season for the Ligue 1 giants. 

“I start with Mbappé,” Enrique told reporters (h/t Paris Fans). “This is a subject that has already come up in the past and was resolved positively. I hope there will be an agreement. But the philosophy is very clear. The club is bigger than everyone, than the coach, managers and players and I totally agree.”

Mbappé began this entire ordeal when he opted not to trigger the option to extend his contract until 2025. PSG must now move on from the Frenchman and secure a transfer fee to avoid losing him as a free agent.

In these final weeks, all eyes are on Real Madrid to see if the Spanish giants make an offer before the Sept. 1 deadline to secure Mbappé and end this saga to allow all parties to begin new chapters.
