Milan considering Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi and Bologna’s Thiago Motta as Stefano Pioli’s replacement

Milan evaluate Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi and Bologna’s Thiago Motta as managerial candidates amidst uncertainty surrounding Stefano Pioli’s future. 

According to a report by Daniele Longo, Milan will part ways with manager Stefano Pioli at the end of the season as results haven’t been convincing in the last few months. The Rossoneri have eyed up two candidates for the managerial role, namely Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi and Bologna’s Thiago Motta. 

There is little doubt now regarding Stefano Pioli’s future as his side are 11 points away from league leaders Inter while having exited the Champions League in the group stages. The Italian manager is expected not to lose his job straightaway but is is unlikely that the club will continue with him. 

As for the candidates, Roberto De Zerbi and Thiago Motta have two different types of tactical philosophies but have always been similar in playing organized football. The Brighton manager might not be an easy target as he looks quite set with the Premier League side and the presence of a high release clause. Thiago Motta has led Bologna secure a top-four spot at Christmas and considering his previous experience in the Serie A, Milan will face less obstacles in landing him as the new manager.
