Newcastle Utd man Sandro Tonali’s agent: “Player wants to put a definitive end to a negative and very painful period”

Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali’s agent has stated that the midfielder wants to put an end to a rather painful period of his life, amidst allegations of betting even in the Premier League.

While Tonali was initially banned for his involvement in the Serie A betting scandal, he is also said to be involved in betting in the Premier League and he could yet to be banned for a higher amount of time.

Tonali’s agent Giuseppe Riso released a statement about the situation of the Italian midfielder, stating that the player is already collaborating with the English FA and wants to put this situation behind himself as soon as possible.

He said (via TMW): “It is specified, in relation to the news appearing in the English and Italian press, that the ongoing investigation is a necessary action after the Newcastle player Sandro Tonali decided to self-report to the FA in October 2023, as well as previously made with the FIGC, to clarify his position regarding the bets he made in the period prior to the start of the proceedings in Italy.”

“The player wants to put a definitive end to a negative and very painful period in his life and start again with strength at the end of the disqualification. Sandro Tonali will therefore continue to collaborate fully with the FA as he did with the FIGC and to do everything possible to ensure that this process can be resolved as quickly as possible.”

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has already stated that Tonali is seeking therapy and help for his issues, with the midfielder having already returned to training with the first-team before he returns to action on the pitch.
