Paul Pogba: “Sometimes I thought I don’t want to play football anymore”

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has revealed that there was a point in his career recently when he thought about not playing football anymore.

Pogba has suffered from a raft of injuries in recent months and the whole of his last season was plagued with injuries, as he couldn’t start even once for the Bianconeri. He also picked up an injury recently, but that is not expected to be a major one and he is expected to return soon.

The Frenchman was involved in an extortion case which also involved his own family not too long ago and in an interview with Al Jazeera, he revealed the mental impact that the saga had on him.

“Money changes people, it can destroy a family and create a war. Sometimes I thought: ‘I don’t want money anymore, I don’t want to play football anymore. I want to be with normal people, so they will love me for who I am, not for the fame or the money.’ Sometimes it’s hard.”

He also addressed the tough year he has had so far in Bianconeri colours, stating that he will not give up and keep fighting back despite the injury issues he has encountered. He revealed that he wants to make detractors eat their words.

“I want to make them eat their words, I want to show them that I’m not weak. They can speak badly of me, but I won’t give up never.”

Pogba is expected to return to action for the Old Lady soon as his previous injury was only an accumulation of fatigue and he could feature against Lazio.
