Former Paris Saint-Germain defender Sergio Ramos is returning to Sevilla FC, where his career began. The 37-year-old’s contract with the capital club expired on June 30. Afterward, he became a free agent.
Ramos’ name was in various rumors, including going to Saudi Arabia. However, the veteran rejected any lucrative offers to return to his boyhood club and La Liga.
Many ask why the former Real Madrid captain turned down one last payday. Well, it’s a simple answer that Ramos gave when Sevilla announced his arrival Monday.
“It’s a debt to my father, my grandfather, Sevillismo, [Antonio] Puerta [Sevilla player who died in 2007], so many things that mattered,” Ramos said (h/t RMC Sport).
